Terri Setterington

My fascination with the paranormal has spanned throughout much of my adult life, and even before that at the tender age of thirteen I was a dab hand at tarot card readings and spent many evenings entertaining my young friends with fanciful predictions and promises of love. In 1979 there was much sensationalism surrounding the case of the Enfield Poltergeist, and that was it, I was well and truly hooked. Since then my life has slowly evolved into one remarkable voyage of exploration, excitement and discovery.

Despite the continued lure of the paranormal I had to concentrate on my career and family for a few years, but this didn’t impede my interest, just delayed it a little. By the late 1990’s my family were grown, my career was heading in the right direction and I had raised my academic aptitude to graduate level. I felt I had fulfilled my societal duties and now it was time to concentrate on what inspired me. After a few outings on overnight organised thrill seeking events I decided to co-found a paranormal group as I wanted my investigation technique to be more serious. However with the event of popular TV ‘haunt’ culture I found that it was increasingly more difficult to access venues for investigation so with my group disbanded I reviewed my approach and joined ASSAP, a group that describes itself as a “scientifically-orientated educational charity and amateur research organisation dedicated to a better understanding of anomalous phenomena”. Through my association with ASSAP I was able to pursue my interest and meet many new and interesting people.

The more I investigated the more my beliefs evolved and as part of a natural process I found myself exploring the energetic pathway and psychic work. I am now qualified to work with energy therapies and have a greater understanding and renewed respect for psychical methodologies, achieved through several years of study. Although I have psychic ability I choose not to use this skill during investigative research.

All of these experiences and my thirst for knowledge has helped me become the person I am today and through the establishment of the SPSG I hope to find my real investigative forte. I am now encircled by a group of people who think as I do; strongly believing that a more rational approach to research, using defined methodology is the only way to study the paranormal effectively. The future is yet to be discovered…………………………………………..Terri x
